rain rain, go the F away

It seems like this week the weather wants to be a little pain in the arse. A hurricane was suppose to hit us hard yesterday and at the first raindrop the electric service was gone. No internet...again. But everything is ok, but there's suppose to be another storm coming this friday. Hope the wind will just blow it away. Oh Mother N, you thou art a heartless bitch.

Una desas doñas

Luck hasn't always been my strongest suit at fairs, raffles or guessing games. I always find luck when I loose things like my cellphone. Now, having the chance to actually own a DIVEDCO print, you either have a lot of money or just ran yourself into a whole bunch of luck.

Looking for furniture at a local store, I saw that they had another room full of paintings. It seems that it was a gallery a few years back, so when they closed it, all the artwork there was left untouched. What cought my attention were the prints on the wall that were by a very important artist, Rafael Tufiño. As I kept looking, I saw a batch of old prints on the floor. There were prints ranging from the 50's to the 80's, most of them were made for la DIVEDCO. They were a organization that united many artist( like Lorenzo Homar, Rafael Tufiño, Jack Dellano etc), composers and writers to make books, prints and films to educate the rural culture and fight analphabetism.

Two prints I didn't expect to see in there were Pedacito de tierra (1953), and Doña Julia (1954), both of them were pretty rough on the edges, you could tell they had been previously used. When I asked the lady-owner of the store about them, she said I could have one of the prints as a gift or else she would throw them out. Not expecting that to happen, I immediately hurried up to pick up the only Doña Julia there was left. I gave her my number anyways just in case she felt the need to get rid of any of the other prints, but probably that's not gonna happen since her husband seems to be an art collector. I don't think he'll be very happy to hear that she gave away a very important piece. Still, I may not be the best storyteller there is, but every piece of art has a history and It's important to tell it (excuse the cheesiness). I got reallllyyyyyyyyy lucky on this one.

Over and over

I wanted you. And I was looking for you. But I couldn't find you. I wanted you. And I was looking for you all day. But I couldn't find you. I couldn't find you. You're walking. And you don't always realize it, but you're always falling. With each step you fall forward slightly. And then catch yourself from falling. Over and over, you're falling. And then catching yourself from falling. And this is how you can be walking and falling at the same time.

Confetti system

I'm pretty sure you've come across the diamond-sparkle of life-shaped piñata from confetti system. What better way to spend your time, but doing this wonderful shiny object that turn any room into a magical space. The first time I saw them was at a Beach House show in Coachella. THe colab is a match made in pinata-powered heaven. After returning from that weekend of glory, I Immediately started doing research on what they do and saw that they've done work for Urban Outfitters, Rodarte, United Bamboo and other bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. After working at the Martha Stewart Mag, Julie Ho and Nick Andersen joined forces for Confetti System, where it was born out from their shared love of communal celebration and craft-making, bringing them together to create a new system.
"CONFETTISYSTEM transforms simple materials such as issue paper, cardboard, and silk into interactive objects that create a point of focus, where memories are made and a spontaneous collaboration with the viewer is sparked. CONFETTISYSTEM’s creations occupy the space between the ephemeral and the permanent, evoking a sense of nostalgia and lighthearted fun."

Finally I got so hooked up on this wonderful pinata Idea that I started making my own and searching for one to buy. Up at there site CS, have a shop, but the piñatas are a bit out my budget. So I stumbled upon another site who had them a bit more accessible but they only had two. Below the pictures of the pinata. When i finish my DYI wannabee pinata i'll make another post showing the process. ENjoy the pics and vids below!

J H

Jessica Harrison has had a lot of hype recently cause of her unusual ceramic figurines. This porcelain dolls are grotesquely beautiful. Recently I've seen on the net a lot of this propositions done by different artists and this are is the ones that I love the most. Taking this traditional medium and giving it a twist, turning it into a whole different conversation piece. But enough about the rambling of my figurines obsession. Jessica Harrison, not only has wonderfully made sculptures, but what I wanted to show you are her lithograph pieces. They are just as disturbing and curious as the others. Really like her line of work. Take a look below.
