Got my very own encounter with this miu miu shoes at an art event. The lady didn't want me to take a picture of her, but i only cared for the shoes. Of course, I convinced her and got the shot. Don't wear it if you don't want to shine to the world! I will upload them soon to chiquitaviolenta.com

David La Chapelle

Recently I covered an exciting event at the Museum Of Contemporary Art in Puerto Rico, where they made a dinner for David La Chapelle. I was excited to join in and snap a few shots. Not only being up close to his art but meeting the artist was overwhelming. Below a few shots from the expo and the dinner.

and finally myself with the artist!

HABIBI

This book. This cover. This story. Of 600+pages, the intricate work that has gone in illustrating each page of this book, is very ambitious and beautiful. Although the author, Craig Thompson, has take on this tasks before, In his very well known graphic novel blankets. THe construction of the book in itself it's very well done, from a hardcover filled with gold leaf that interprets the time and place of the story. Sometimes the narration or the dialog in the text is a bit hard to swallow, but it picks up from that to continue a well written fable. I read it in one night sitting, now I'm going to look at the drawings with more detail.

Allora & Calzadilla

One of the most recognized duo in the art world, Allora & Calzadilla have worked and lived the puertorican air for quite a while. Recently they were honored in the venecian biennal. After that accomplishment, they were recognized here in Puerto Rico for what they've contributed in the art community. An activity organized by MAPR, who needed many photographers to cover the event for press and I got to be one of the lucky photographers to not only cover the event, but meet the artists in person. Below, pictures from the nerve wracking meeting!

Book of the day

Calvin and Hobbes is one of my fav books after Mafalda. Although both have many similarities Mafalda's more political and humanitarian approach makes her a powerhouse of human rights, while calvin depicts his insatisfaction with art and an ongoing existential questioning. Bill Watterson's creation, reminds you of the contrast of innocence and the twist of evil kids sometimes have. Hobbes is the best friend anyone (including adults) can have. Functioning not only as his imaginary friend, but as his voice of conscience. This comic strip reminds me so much of how important it's to have fun and preserve the innocence that once we had as kids.

Below I took pictures of a few of my favorite strips from the books. Hope you guys enjoy!

and more...

you can say this one is my most fav

One more thing. In august I went to SanFrancisco's Cartoon museum and saw an original Illustration!

6 second history

"This fascinating, brilliant 20-minute video narrates the history of the "Amen Break," a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969. This sample was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music, and became the basis for drum-and-bass and jungle music -- a six-second clip that spawned several entire subcultures. Nate Harrison's 2004 video is a meditation on the ownership of culture, the nature of art and creativity, and the history of a remarkable music clip."

UPDATE

As you may see. I did a bit of an update to the sidebar. Threw away all the useless info and traded it for a more cleaner and to the point look. I don't know if I'll be making the day to day BG change, 'cause I think the blog should go with the same look and feel as the site. What do you guys think?

Whales

About a year ago I had this facination over whales. Dunno why, but I started drawing whales everywhere. Hence this unfinished-still-work-in-progress illustration. I like so much the contrast of the black lines, that decided to upload it like it is. I will keep posted on It's progress. How do you guys like it?
